origami
The name OriGami means the art of paperfolding. "Ori" is tha japanese word for folding and "gami" is tha Japanese word for paper. Contrary to popular beliefs, Origami did not start in Japan. It began in China and then spread to Japan sometime during the sixth century.
The history of Origami followed after the invention of paper and as a result of paper's use in society. Independent paper folding traditions exist in East Asia and Europe, and it is unclear whether these evolved separately or had a common source.
Origami did not initially allow any cutting or gluing, but standards have loosened considerably over the years. Today, you will see many origami books with models that involve some form of cutting or gluing to provide increased stability to the final design.
