What you will learn in 6th Grade Art...
"To affect the quality of the day, that is the highest of the arts."- Henry David Thoreau
This class is designed to acquaint students with basic design elements, drawing
and painting skills, compositional design, various techniques and media, art history, and aesthetics.
Art 1 students use direct observation, imagination and personal
experiences as inspiration for artworks. For planning original works, students record visual ideas about their environment and experiences and express these ideas using a variety of both 2- and 3- dimensional media. Students will learn vocabulary within the Elements of Art and Principles of Design and will know how to apply them when talking about personal works and the works of others.
As the foundation of all other art courses, Art I enables students to gain a broad understanding of art. Students participate in a variety of learning experiences, including:
· Two- and three-dimensional art making
· Exploration of historical and cultural heritage
· Response and evaluation techniques
- Artist Journal including art vocabulary, daily warm-ups, project directions and rubrics
This class will emphasize each student's ideas, inspirations, and imagination.
